Holding our community with Love

Hopelessness can overwhelm us when we witness extreme devastation in our collective community. We can feel overwhelmed by the enormity of suffering and underwhelmed by our power to be of assistance, and so we might bury ourselves in our own lives, ignoring the suffering of any other.

And I know the truth of this phenomenon, for I have felt at once overwhelmed and underwhelmed as I have witnessed the devastating impact of the recent cyclone in New Zealand, the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and other widespread tragedies in our collective.

Sometimes what we can do is very limited. Sometimes we are restricted in how we can support those in need, but at the heart of who I am, I know there is an inherent something we can gift in any now, regardless of where we are and what we are able to offer, and this something is simple but immensely potent.

It is our presence with another’s pain, our presence with their turmoil, our presence with their lived experience of what is.

When we are present deeply with any other, we are holding energetically their hand; we are supporting their energy with our own as they journey through the difficulty of destruction.

We can and we must open our pockets, our doors, and our “tool bags” to help practically if we are able, but do not underestimate the immense potency of holding others in the compassionate arms of our awareness, and not with a sense of hopelessness, not with a sense of despair, but with our Love, which is ultimately what unites us as One.

The hydrangea often feels like a symbol of community to me, as if it represents the essence of what it is to be One, and as I hold this blooming Brilliance, I extend my compassionate presence to all those suffering.

And in this meditation, I receive the knowing that our intention to be present with any other is what allows us to be with them in any now, so I invite you to intentionally be with those in need so that, together, we can support them with our Love.
