My favourite artist in the world, Galina Kim, is organising a composition of sunflowers for a fundraising event called Joining Hearts for Ukraine.
Her sunflower designs have been laser cut from wood, and contributing local artists are turning them into individual works of art for a silent auction. All proceeds go to the Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.
I was delighted to be invited to participate, but that I chose to dry flowers for my sunflower surprised me. It’s not my creative comfort zone at all; in fact, I have no prior experience drying or working with flowers. But that was the idea that wanted my attention, and now I receive a Wisdom from my Highest offering insight into that inspired idea:
Think not of these dried flowers as anything but permanency of Brilliance. Think of them as a representation of the Love within the all — a Love that blooms regardless of our perception of it. Never is there an absence of this blooming Brilliance, even when that Brilliance is overshadowed by hate, so may compassion be the gift you offer the all.
In my eyes, the physical beauty of these flowers diminished when I dried them, and in isolation, they looked unappealing and not at all Brilliant. I wondered how I would ever do justice to such an important cause with shrivelled-up petals as my paint.
But my heart guided me to continue, and as I picked, dried and assembled, I realised that the beauty was the Love in my doing. And now my eyes see this creation in a new light. I no longer see shrivelled-up petals or lifeless leaves, but a collective coming together through Love.
As these words arrive, I realise that JOINING HEARTS FOR UKRAINE is also a collective coming together through Love, and that no matter what we do, contribute or auction, the most transformational offering is the outpouring of Love from our core.
Thank you, Galina Kim, for adding your magic to the sunflower of my heart. A morning spent sipping tea from sunflower cups and painting in the studio with you is truly a morning of bliss!
